Girard Park, Lafayette

Here shallow fish shift
flaunting heavy scales
here the aged come to soak in their own pasts.

The crescendo of children
wrenches at strings
and aged faces unblink tears
and recant wrinkles.

The children, with eyes large as medallions
having done their deed
run away with the sun.
and darkness falls like pity.
